Strain review by MediScrogs: Black Stone

Strain: Black Stone

Grower Name: MediScrogs

Medium: Roots Organics soil to start, mixed with KIS Organics water-only bag soil in the finishing pots

Nutrients: Some supplemental feeding from a Nectar For The Gods trial pack, including their calcium, fulvic, and bone meal products, some epsom salts, aloe, and coconut water, small amounts of molasses

Lights type and schedule (indoor): 18/6 Cob leds, 2 x 55w

Days from Seed: 70 to 85

Harvest Points: Clear and cloudy trichs, mostly fully cloudy, and cloudy with amber

Dry Yield (grams): Good yield relative to container size, satisfying performance

Growth Comments: I grew two different seeds of Black Stone. One was a bit older than the other but both were vigorous seedlings. Would have benefited from larger pots.

Plants grew well, vigorous, and were not fussy with the environment or nutrients.

Comments on smell (during growth, harvest, etc.): Normal weed smell during growth, not extreme but I always use a carbon filter.

Buds have an earthy, soil, coffee smell. Some grapefruit early on. Oily, greasy, earthy, coffee as it cures.

Early cut of second plant curing with a strong, unexpected liquor aroma of spirits cutting through the earth/coffee base.

The Smell: Diesel, Earthy, Grapefruit, Hash, Leather, Coffee

The Smoke: Smooth smoke brings the effects along at a gentle pace. Potent relaxing high. Removes anxiety, pain and stress. Healing .

Harvest points were very influential to the overall effect. Partly to mostly cloudy cuts were my favorite, gives a good relaxing and spiritual high. Mellow body and stress relief with a clear, inspired head. This is a relaxing and medical strain, so there is no need to ripen it to amber to get a beautiful smoke.

Cloudy/amber cut is more physically affecting. I feel the flower lost that beautiful uplifting quality and became more anodyne, more of a physical remedy and a downer. Good for sleep and pain.

Black Stone delivers a good, relaxing chill out with a clear inspiration, there is no anxiety in it so it would be suitable for a lot of types.

9 Smoke ability (Rate the smoke ability of the sample from 1-10 harsh-smooth)

The High: Good relaxing, soulful type medical stone, like a good old school hashplant, alleviates stress and physical pain, removes anxiety. Uplifting effect is desirable, is diminished by late harvest. Potency is very good but high comes along gently without stress or overly profound side-effects. In this sense I think it would be a good choice for a patient who is new to cannabis medicine.

Final Comments: Black Stone gives a full body high and relaxation. It also clears the mind and allows spiritual insight and delight to the mind. I find the earlier cuts better in this sense. The effect comes on very gradually without any anxiety, it relieves stress and pain and gives a restful night of sleep. Black Stone also relaxes including abdominal muscles and digestion, and will ask you to eat, so be prepared if your stomach is empty – you will eat like a champion. LOL.

I see Black Stone having a lot of appeal for medical users that need pain or stress relief. Black Stone is suitable for patients that are new to cannabis, and should be satisfying to those that are seasoned already, with good medical body effects and a light and balanced head to match. Smooth smoke indeed!

@MediScrogs perfect documentation on growth, effects on different harvest points… Just awesome my friend thank you highfive
How can you compare it to Stone dragon?
    shareone

Well, to compare with SD…I think in general that SD is more physical (while still being heady :fly:). Blackstone seems more floaty and ethereal, while still affecting the physical body.

Is really tough to answer. I took my three SD at 12, 13, and 14 weeks…different phenos. Even the purple monster 14 still gave a nice heady clarity without being too heavy. It did make me walk a bit slower, but not in a bad way. imstonedThat said, i did feel the Blackstone at (+ or – 12 weeks) was very heavy, too heavy than needed, and a bit depressant, I didn't notice this effect in any of the SD. I would never take her out that far again, based on my experience. The cut of the same plant two weeks earlier is a sublime uplifting indica stone. STILL HAS the great stress and pain relieving qualities but also clear and spiritual invigorating. Is my favorite cut of Blackstone or SD so far. This is the chop that growers should be looking for.
highfive Is really a shame I don't have any earlier cuts of SD to compare it to, so this is not apples to apples comparison.

The green pheno SD at 13 weeks had a good active head while the body effects were turned down to like 70% intensity. That was a nice one too for daytime or night, really liked it.

I feel the Blackstone is more subtle, smooth, and sublime. SD is more raw, powerful, and physical, while still offering a clear head. I just love this pool. Can't wait to run out some Dragons again and look at some earlier cuts.

I would still put SD/Blackstone in any top 5 best ever list, this is a desert island strain that can bring it all depending the harvest points. I think we are all missing out a lot by failing to multi harvest our strains….

Thanks again and mad :respect:to STONE, he has always shared the reg beans of SD and not hoarded these gems like other breeders out there. Stone doesn't talk about MAYBE releasing some regs two years later, he has always done this and encouraged every one to make their own crosses and evolve the plant.

Blackstone and SD are the gold standard to which you can compare any medical keeper strain, grow these if you haven't already and put it up against your favorite medical strains. You will be a happy med farmer.
